Gardening Tips

It is finally that time of year again and we want to keep you safe and healthy this summer.

Here are some tips for safer gardening!

  • Begin with a warmup. Start with light tasks such as easy raking or a walk to warm up your muscles.
  • Be aware of your posture and body mechanics. When sweeping or raking, move your feet instead of twisting your trunk or over-reaching with your arms.
  • Be ergonomically correct. Elevate your flower-bed and containers to a comfortable height. Use knee pads or a mat to get close to your work and avoid putting pressure on those areas.
  • Pace yourself. Alternate between heavy and light tasks. Switch up activities and positions. Avoid prolonged or repetitive movements such as pruning or cutting with shears.

Stay safe while walking in snow and ice

1. Wear proper footwear. Avoid shoes or boots with smooth, leather or plastic soles. Instead opt for heavy treads with rubber soles for good traction. Crampons are very useful while walking on ice.
