It is finally that time of year again and we want to keep you safe and healthy this summer.
Here are some tips for safer gardening!
- Begin with a warmup. Start with light tasks such as easy raking or a walk to warm up your muscles.
- Be aware of your posture and body mechanics. When sweeping or raking, move your feet instead of twisting your trunk or over-reaching with your arms.
- Be ergonomically correct. Elevate your flower-bed and containers to a comfortable height. Use knee pads or a mat to get close to your work and avoid putting pressure on those areas.
- Pace yourself. Alternate between heavy and light tasks. Switch up activities and positions. Avoid prolonged or repetitive movements such as pruning or cutting with shears.
